The Collection

The Society’s book collection includes over 1,000 titles. Bond County resources (courthouse records, cemetery books, village histories, church histories, census books) form the largest single group, followed by family histories, and resources for Illinois counties surrounding Bond. Additionally in the collection are microfilm of County Census 1820 to 1930, county newspapers from 1858 to 2018 and Genealogical Quarterlies from the region and state societies. The resource focus is on Bond County with support materials for genealogical research. The growing collection is the result of gifts, contributions, purchases and the continuing research and documentation effort of a number of diligent member genealogists. We are proud and grateful for the work of the member genealogists.

Your Visit

The Bond County Genealogical Society Library collection is housed on the lower floor of the Greenville Public Library. Many of the volumes that can be viewed for research at the Library are listed on our Society Resources page. The room is kept locked, so the key must be requested at the Circulation Desk. The Library is handicapped accessible. The Public Library staff are helpful and accommodating, though they are not familiar with our collection itself. There is a booklet in the room which lists all the holdings and a microfilm reader/printer for doing research in the Greenville Advocate and other Bond County newspapers.
